It’s worth pausing to contemplate one of the most consequential legislative changes in years: Canada is now one of the few countries to fully legalize marijuana.
How we got to this point wasn’t easy.
In 2014 only 37% of Canadians said marijuana should be legalized. It wasn’t an issue on most people’s radar. Anyone running on marijuana legalization was relegated to the fringes of acceptable political discourse. Fast-forward to 2017 and support for marijuana legalization is supported by 7 in 10 voters.
